Day o’ Birth

Yep, that’s right.  Today is my birthday.  Happy birthday to me.  19 years feels good so far, and I’m really thinking that this year will be one of my bests… here’s why.  (:

1.  I’m just freaking awesome.  If you haven’t already figured this out, why are you even reading my blog?

2.  I’m in the process of doing some research for Haiti, and I am quickly starting to fall in love with the country and it’s people.  The research is about the human trafficking and ‘restaveks’ in the country.  I was included in on a phone conference with one of the high-up workers for a well-known and widely respected safe house group for girls, and it looks like me and Allison are going to become this woman’s right hand girls as we continue our research.  Plans are made for this woman to go down to Haiti and do a research trip to find out exactly what goes on down there and how prevalent restaveks and that practice are.  Obviously, it’s really cemented into the culture, but there is hope and we plan on trying to bring it.  We want to be one of the 20something NGO’s down there taking care of their sexually exploited girls.  It’s weird, but I might end up in Haiti taking care of girls before I end up in Cambodia.  Hollaaa.  The LORD is doing good works through all this.

3.  I’m trying out for the summer travel team for school, called New Life.  I really want to do this, and I think that it’s something that the LORD has put on my heart.  If I can affect (effect?) some kids life like the girls on the New Life team of 2006 did, then I would be one of the happiest girls in the world knowing that I was able to help someone like they helped me.  Ah.  So I’m going to try out.  If I make it, I make it and the LORD will be brought glory through the summer.  If I don’t make it, the world won’t end.  I’ll go home and get a job and the LORD will be brought glory through it.  (:  I’m hopeful, though.

4.  It’s really just going to be a great year.
