I’m counting Day 2 as a success. I successfully did the workout (60 seconds run, 90 seconds walk, for twenty minutes, plus 5 minute warm up and cool down). Jaklyn and I hit the gym at the apartments around 3 or 3:30 and watched Futurama while we did our own work outs.

Today  I woke up with a plan in mind, and then checked my email and saw that someone had encouraged me to make a solid plan (since yesterday didn’t go so well). Today’s plan was simple: Class, Chapel, Lunch, Lydia’s, home – workout, driving a friend to Orlando, sitting in Barnes&Noble while said friend was in a meeting, dinner with said friend, and then hang-out at said friend’s house.

And the plan was followed pretty much perfectly.

The only part about Day 2 that I would consider less than perfect was the running part. I didn’t exactly run. You see, I’m still very nervous about my knee and how well it will hold up under the stress of running every day. It pops and clicks and sometimes is painful just going up the stairs. I don’t want to aggravate it too much with running on concrete just yet, and I don’t want to take myself out of the game before it really starts.

So today, I did the elliptical. I know it’s completely different from running, so it really doesn’t count — but you should see how much I sweat! heh. The elliptical is much easier on my knee. I haven’t done any research, but I’m sure it’s at least a little better to ease myself (my knee) into running on hard ground than to just jump right into it. I’ll be trying out different places to run (Jaklyn may or may not accompany) that are primarily grassy for right now. Eventually I’ll move down to the Lakefront where there’s a nice path of sidewalk. But, until I’m feeling more confident in my knee, my running is going to be more like ellipticizing, and running on grass.

I still count today as a success. Just a modified success.

But, notice the word “success.” It’s still there.

EDIT.

I had an epiphany this morning during my Isaiah class. I’m going to try and find my old stretchy-band thing that the doctor gave me to do knee exercises with. If I can’t find it, I’ll buy one. I should probably be doing those knee exercises everyday. I don’t know if it will help with the lack of cartilage in my knee, but it will surely help strengthen the muscles connected to and surrounding it.  Also, if you’re wondering, the knee issues come from playing basketball when I was younger. And when a girl FELL ON IT during a game, causing my knee to hyper-extend. It was painful, and I had to get an MRI and the doctor said that a) I don’t have very much cartilage in my knee (anywhere) and b) that it doesn’t quite look like it, but the meniscus may or may not be a little bit agitated on the edge somewhere.

Of course, that was years ago so I wouldn’t be surprised if I was misquoting the man.

Point of post: Knee exercises.

I like hearing what you have to say. (:
